Are Celebrity Endorsements worth it?- Socail Media

It goes without saying that we love celebrities! We love reading about them and watching them in our favourite television shows or movies. It also seems we like to follow, like and share celebrities on a range of social media platforms. Companies take advantage of our love for celebrities and advertise their products or services through endorsements. In a world so heavily involved in online activity, social media advertisement has become very popular.

But do celebrity product endorsements actually motivate us to make a purchase?

Companies are certainly reaping the benefits of celebrity-endorsed tweets and other celebrity-related social media advertising. Consumers are increasingly looking to their social networks for advice on products. A positive online interaction due to celebrity endorsement  significantly impacts the likelihood of a product being purchased.

Jägermeister- Strange but True

Over the past 6 months, Jägermeister has been publishing their 'Strange but True' campaign on Facebook. See my earlier blog post- Jägermeister- Over 3 Million Followers and #Jägermoments- Cricket World Cup

The 'Strange but True' campaign uses illustrations of various animal characters that males can identify within their own social groups. The idea behind the social media marketing strategy is to encourage engagement by 'tagging a mate' that identifies with one of the characters (see picture above). Which character can you most relate to purely by physical attributes? Perhaps the noble stag or the frugal fox? You decide!

-Engagement rates fall 3.5% below average on for posts published Monday through to Wednesday
-Optimal time is early afternoon (if your target audience is in your time zone)

-For Twitter, Mayweather has 5.84 million followers while Pacquiao has 1.80 million

#nikerunning Nike+ is Amazing!

#Nikeplus
Nike, has moved away from traditional advertisement methods and has focussed on digital marketing including Twitter and Facebook.
But Nike has taken it to the next level by creating their own type of social network- 'Nike+'
'Nike+' allows you, through the use of a smartphone and a wristband, customers are able to track their own activity levels, share and communicate with other Nike+ users.
Nike is not only creating products but also services to keep people engaged and therefore more likely to purchase other or new Nike products in the future.

What do you think? Is this one of the best social media marketing tools being used by an organisation?

Turn your Car into a Billboard!

BumperTwit is an advertising company in the US!
They will help you turn your car into a mobile advertising sign for the price of $7
It, is a simple but effective way to get exposure for your Twitter, Intragram or even your Blog accounts. It is simply a sticker on the back of your car, but the question is- would it really work? Perhaps purchase one and find out for yourself!

Heinz- Which bean are you?

Recently, Heinz has launched a new product into the market- called Five Beanz. In order to get the new product out there the company created a Facebook quiz that determined which bean you were based on questions you answered about your personality!

To make the quiz more appealing and to reach as many people as possible, Heinz rewarded the participants who shared the quiz ten times online a bag of Heinz products.
If we take a closer look at the measureable results we can see just have successful the campaign actually was:
-The quiz lasted for two weeks
-It acquired a total of 22,000 from around the world
-It has 10,000 shares online
-Reached a total of 11,000,000 people!
I think this was a create way to promote the new product and to get potential customers involved. It is obvious from the results that this type of online marketing can be very successful and once more companies realise its potential the more often we are Social Media users will experience it.

The #NYPD Twitter Fail

Here is another terrible attempt of using Twitter as a Marketing tool!

In 2014, the New York Police Department attempted to revamp itself by asking Twitter followers to post photos that feature the NYPD. It wasn't too long before users began linking the hashtag #myNYPD to terrible photos of police brutality.

It goes without saying that companies and organisations that use social media as a marketing platform, need to be more aware of the potential issues and risks that can be associated and need to act accordingly!

Online Marketing Gone Horribly Wrong!

So far, I have shown you a range of Social Media Marketing campaigns that have proven to be successful. Although now I would like to point out a few that went Horribly Wrong for well intended companies!

For those that have never heard of Benadryl, it is a brand name allergy medicine marketed over the counter by Company Johnson & Johnson.

As part of their marketing Benadryl developed a smartphone app that allowed users to pinpoint known pollen hotspots on a map. I initially thought this was a great idea of the company in order to cater for their customers.

Although, as shown above, it wasn't long before people realised that pins could be used to draw crude pictures and words! As a result, the app was shut down!

McDonalds- 'I'm Tweetin it'

Today I want to talk about McDonalds and the Social Media Platforms that they choose to utilise in order to advertise their product and brand name.

McDonalds seems to constantly update both their Twitter and Facebook page with new content. To me, these two platforms are the ones that McDonalds have chosen to spend majority of their time, money and effort into. This would be due to the large proportion of Market Share that these two social media companies possess.

Although Twitter and Facebook are not the only platforms they use. Recently, McDonalds has also joined Pinterest. This could be due to the many different strengths that it offers compares to other social media platforms. Such as verified company pages, analytics for business accounts and 'Rich Pins'.

Happy Easter! & Creme Eggs!

Firstly, I would like to say Happy Easter to everyone!
I have decided that today I will briefly talk about the Social Media Marketing campaign that Cadbury produces every year in order to boost sales towards the limited time product- the 'Creme Egg'

In 2012, for the London Olympics, Cadbury created the Goo Games. The online game is based on real Olympic events such as 'Pole Yolk,' 'Goodles' and 'Triple Bump'. Players were awarded with virtual medals and also real world prizes!

The way Cadbury really benefited from the campaign was that in order to play the game, participants would have to like the Creme Egg Facebook page. The page currently has a huge 2.5 million likes!

The Power of YouTube for Marketers

YouTube is an interesting Social Media Platform as it combines many different aspects of the internet. For example, YouTube is a search engine, an advertising platform, a social network, a hosting service and a community site.

From a users perspective, it is simply a website that allows you to watch entertaining and informative videos. The majority of people (including myself) do not visit YouTube to find products or to find services to purchase.

For this reason, it is important for the Marketer who is using YouTube as a marketing tool to harness the nature of the user intent. In other words- create content that will inform and entertain the user and relate your advertisement to other YouTube videos that are relevant to your business.

Burger King was Hacked! Changed to McDonalds!

Social Media is an amazing marketing tool- however, what if your company's account falls into the wrong hands?
This is exactly what happened to Burger King in 2013, when their Twitter account was hacked. The person who managed to access the account changed the name to McDonalds and began promoting McDonalds in a range of new tweets.
By the time that the Burger King Marketing team regained control of the account it was said that the Burger King Twitter gained up to 30,000 new followers.
In a way, I can see that the whole crisis actually benefited Burger King. However, it does raise questions in regards to Burger Kings online Security policies and safeguards.

#Jägermoments- Cricket World Cup

Again I have chosen to focus on Jägermeister's Social Media Marketing Campaign.
The picture was posted 2 hours ago on their Company's Facebook Profile. The post encourages 'tagging a mate' and also using the hashtag- #Jägermoments.

This post in particular is targeting a few key bases of segmentation.
1.) Psychographic- Divides the market into groups based on social class, lifestyle, personality and interests. In this example it would be fans of Cricket!

2.) Geographic- Divides the market into geographical areas and features. As you can see- Jägermeister is targeting individuals from the country who won last nights Cricket World Cup Final- Australia!

In the short period of time that this post has been exposed it has generated 652 likes and 163 comments

Jägermeister- Over 3 Million Followers

Jägermeister- A German Liqueur introduced in 1935. The name translates to 'Hunting Master'.

In the past the company has relied heavily on marketing through sports and music in the form of sponsorships. Jägermeister has developed an association with European racing teams including Formula One.

In recent times, the company has joined competitors in the adoption of social media as an excellent marketing tool.

The company launched an Instragram focused social media campaign in hopes of building community and awareness of the brand. Their Instagram account encouraged their followers to upload their own Jägermeister themed photos and use the hashtag: #ShowJagerLove. The company offered prizes each week for the best photos shared (shown above).

The campaign has helped increase followers by 63%, generated 67,471 interactions and assisted the company in achieving a massive 3.2 million followers worldwide.

An Intro to my Blog!

This is officially my first posted Blog!
I will be posting regularly on the relevant topic of Marketing Within Social Media.

My Blog will highlight examples of what I believe to be excellent and also poor uses of Social Media in terms of a company's Marketing campaign. I will be sharing my own opinions on the topic and I encourage you to do the same by sharing your thoughts through the comment section.

In this initial Blog I want to simply break down the meaning of Social Media. You might ask yourself what really is the different between 'Media' and 'Social Media'.
You can think of Media (as in newspapers and television) as being a one-way street. For example, you can watch a television news program but you are unable to communicate back. However, Social Media is termed a two-way street since users have the ability to communicate back and forwards between with one another.

I look forward to posting regularly and hopefully you find this Blog interesting and insightful!
